A new way to make eye floaters less noticeable.

Salience Optics is developing a new type of eyewear for people bothered by eye floaters — especially on bright skies, white backgrounds, screens and other uniform surfaces.

Eye floater eyewear Optical pattern research Non-invasive approach

THE PROBLEM

Floaters are often hardest to ignore when there's almost nothing else to see.

Eye floaters — also known as mouches volantes — can become particularly noticeable against bright, uniform visual environments. Their movement can repeatedly pull attention back toward them.

☀
Bright skies

Blue and overcast skies often make floaters stand out.

□
White backgrounds

Walls, paper and bright interiors can reveal them clearly.

⌘
Computer screens

Documents, websites and bright displays can become distracting.

Aa
Reading

High-contrast text and light pages can increase awareness.

THE IDEA

The floater remains. The visual environment changes.

Instead of trying to remove the floater itself, Salience Optics is exploring whether carefully designed optical patterns can change how strongly the floater stands out against the visual scene.

01

Alter the background

Introduce subtle visual structure where floaters are normally most obvious: against bright, uniform backgrounds.

03

Keep useful vision clear

The challenge is finding patterns subtle enough to remain wearable while still influencing floater perception.

A DIFFERENT APPROACH

Not another pair of dark sunglasses.

Sunglasses can reduce overall brightness, but Salience Optics is investigating something different: structured optical surfaces designed specifically around the perception of floaters.

No surgery An external optical approach.
No laser The vitreous itself is not altered.
No removal claim The goal is reduced visibility and distraction.
Made for everyday life Screens, reading, bright environments and outdoor use.

IN DEVELOPMENT

Finding the pattern you barely notice — while noticing your floaters less.

We're exploring different pattern geometries, densities, contrasts and optical implementations to understand which approaches show the most promise.

GLASSES FOR EYE FLOATERS

Can glasses help make eye floaters less noticeable?

Traditional prescription glasses do not remove vitreous floaters. Tinted lenses and sunglasses may make them less noticeable in some bright environments by reducing overall brightness and contrast.

Salience Optics is investigating a different kind of eye floater glasses: lenses using subtle optical patterns designed specifically to influence how prominently floaters appear against otherwise uniform backgrounds.

The technology is still under development.

FAQ

About Salience Floater Glasses

Can glasses remove eye floaters? +
No. Glasses do not physically remove vitreous floaters. Salience Optics is exploring whether specially designed optical patterns can make existing floaters less visually prominent.
How would Salience Floater Glasses work? +
We're investigating patterned optical surfaces designed to change the visual information behind or around the perceived floater shadow. The aim is to reduce how strongly the floater stands out.
Are they the same as sunglasses for floaters? +
No. Sunglasses primarily reduce incoming light. Our research is focused on adding carefully controlled visual structure rather than simply darkening the entire visual field.
When will Salience Floater Glasses be available? +
The product is currently in development. Join the email list to receive progress updates and a notification when the first Salience Optics product becomes available.

New floaters, a sudden increase in floaters, flashes of light, a curtain or shadow in vision, or sudden visual loss should be evaluated promptly by an eye-care professional.
